Sample Paper 4Assunta: Natural BeautyIf there is one phrase that will best describe Maria Assunta Schiavone, more known to us as Assunta De Rossi, it would be “naturally intriguing”. Assunta exudes an aura that arouses curiosity among people that surround her. With this young woman’s natural beauty, childlike gaiety and acting prowess, coupled with some colourful controversies, Assunta has secured her place in the glam world of show business and made a distinctive mark in this exciting industry. “Sam I Am” As many already know, Assunta – Sam to her close friends – is half-Filipino, half-Italian. She was born in Lecce, Italy on February 19, 1983. However, probably not many are aware that Assunta joined showbiz at a young age. In fact, she belonged to the roster of young hopefuls in the teen-oriented variety show “That’s Entertainment”. Her “teenybopper” phase, however, was not so glamorous – much so that Assunta was barely visible to the public’s eye, leaving her potentials untapped. Eventually, young Sam grew up and became an alluring young woman. More significantly, Sam became one of the country’s most daring young actresses that surfaced in recent years. In 2001, Sam accepted the major role in Maryo J. Delos Reyes’ adult-oriented flick “Red Diaries”. From then on, she bid adieu to her teenybopper image and started her career as a serious dramatic actress. And one heck of an actress did Sam become! Her launching movie “Red Diaries” gave her the chance to showcase her acting talent, which became more obvious in her succeeding movies “Sisid” and “Hubog”. Joel Lamangan’s “Hubog” is Assunta’s finest work so far. Her performance in this flick garnered two accolades – the Metro Manila Film Fest and the Gawad Urian Best Actress awards. In particular, she bested seasoned actresses such as Amy Austria (“Bagong Buwan”) and Dina Bonnevie (“Tatarin”) in the 2001 Metro Manila Film Fest. Meanwhile, Assunta was the youngest-ever winner of the Urian Best Actress award. She Sizzled… After her incredible acting prowess in “Hubog”, Assunta instantly became a household name. Movie offers came a-flooding and she also became visible in the boob tube. With fame also came intrigues. Even in her launching movie “Red Diaries”, Assunta is already a favourite prey of controversies. Back then, the police became indignant over the film’s “less positive portrayal of police officers” in one of its episodes (“Red Diaries” is a trilogy) and moved to stop the movie. In this controversial episode, Assunta played as an abused wife of a corrupt police officer who, after finally deciding to leave her husband, got gang-raped by five policemen (under her husband’s orders). The local police even petitioned Malacañang to prevent showing of the movie. -END OF PREVIEW - *** This is a COPYRIGHTED work. DO NOT COPY – for viewing purposes only.
